Still Alive

As GLaDOS would say, I’m still alive.

As it goes, blogging with a full time job is rough. Especially when I am working 50+ hour weeks. Hiring and training. Also, Borderlands 2. A vacation. These things.

I haven’t been doing much of any writing. Not much on Tumblr. Or Twitter. Or for my own purposes. I have some small starts. Photos for my local short story, for use on Tumblr. I am thinking about going with a cruise rather than a hotel for my multi-character story (guess I’ll have to take notes on my cruise next month…). I tried writing up the Dungeons & Dragons game I am playing in, talking through events after the fact. Didn’t seem like a good use of time. But then, setting it aside, I haven’tput anything else in its place.

So what does the blogger do when they have fallen off the wagon? That’s the piece that’s not mentioned in class, the harder side of blogging. Most blogs seem to get started full of fire on the writer’s part, then fade. So what do I do?

First, I have been doing at least one thing successfully. I have been reading some blogs on an almost daily basis. Granted, they’re on Tumblr, but it presents the posting really well. And I have reblogged a couple of good things, kind of fun.

Meaning second, I want to find a good RSS reader, to follow my other blogs. Any recommendations?

Because if I can keep up with reading blogs, it will keep me involved with blogging, and the writing will follow.

More Changes I Plan On

So, if I am going with my initials as my identity on the blog, I think it needs more of a personal touch. Also, as I begin thinking about splitting my content, an identity forms here. Splitting between a Tumblr, with mainly writing and thoughts and such about writing… a WordPress here, which will be about writing, and geekery, and my thoughts… and my wife is working on starting a blog, and I will be contributing.

But more on that later. Read more of this post

Merging My Two Blogs

I have been thinking about trying to combine my current blog here, with my first blog I made for an earlier class. My biggest issue? I want my domain name back: dbcii.wordpress.com!

I found some answers:

http://thebacklight.com/merge-combine-multiple-wordpress-blogs/

So now I have to figure it out. If I merge this blog onto the one with the domain I want, I can get the domain, but I lose the settings and things I have set up here. I can set up the WordPress redirect to get people there from here…

Or… I could merge the other onto this blog… but then, the domain?

Or… I could delete the other… create a new one… set up some settings… transfer over…

So things have to be easier than that. Finally, I found this and I think I see what needs to happen. Export the old blog… import it here… delete the old blog… change the blog address here.

I think it’s time to do so – reclaim my brand, so to speak. Since it’s my initials. And I’m using it on Tumblr. And Twitter. And Facebook.

Need Your Help

Hi all,

I am reminded of the things I have learned so far about blogging and community. I have a bit of one here. I just started a Tumblr – and have none there. Like, literally none.

But what do I do? I go and ask a question. Which no one has answered. And which I actually kind of would like other peoples’ thoughts on.

I shared on Facebook, no answer. I shared on Twitter, no answer.

Maybe no one has an answer. That’s fair. Or really scary, actually.

But I thought I would ask here.

The short version of the question? What would science fiction written by the presidential candidates – or their parties – look like? In other worlds, what is the future world that they are hoping to build?

Let’s Launch a New Blog

Class is over, and I feel like I have learned a thing or two. For the moment, the main lesson is that if I want to be blogging something creative, it won’t be particularly out of place on Tumblr. I plan on talking through some of my thoughts on that process here, as still something of my meta-blog, or blog about blogging.

The date seems appropriate. Monday, August 20th. I started kindergarten on August 20th. My parents got married on August 20th. It’s a good day. I like it.

Here we go. Read more of this post
