Publicize – Results from my First Test

So, as I mentioned yesterday, I was testing out Publicize on multiple channels. I think the test was pretty successful. The Twitter feed here on the site does not show the post to Twitter, as advertised – which is good, because otherwise you would see the post, with a Tweet next to it telling you the post was there. As I’ve mentioned before, Twitter is less of a reader and more of… something else. One of its better uses being perhaps its ability to feed into other things, like the WordPress sidebar, or Facebook. More on that below.

I ran into one snag: When shared on Tumblr, the blog post then kicked in the automatic share there – effectively, Tumblr’s version of Publicize. This resulted in two Tweets. The one from Tumblr also ended up in the sidebar here on the blog. It looks like my Facebook had been logged out on Tumblr, otherwise I imagine it would have ended up there twice as well. This was easily solved – I have turned off these automatic shares on Tumblr, but am still linked in where I should be able to share when I want to from within Tumblr.

Internship: Done! Now what?

I have completed my Internship in Library Science, and am pretty proud of the final product. I built the base of a virtual collection of materials about the Treadwell Mines here in the Juneau area, and it now looks pretty excellent. Something About This Worked – Part 3

So here’s some more evidence that something we’re doing is working – over on Comparative Geeks. Time to check in on the experiment I have had going on these last weeks.

So what has the last month looked like?

  • Comparative Geeks – Character Studies Truncated: Last 30 days, 45 views
  • DBCII – Something About This Worked, Parts 1 and 2: Total, 6 views

I am also not seeing any search terms that turned these posts up, although with 6 views, that’s not surprising.

This experiment is intriguing in that it’s not turning anything up here in the slightest. Also: frustrating. I had said that the next experiment was the photos with the tags, so here we go!

Internship Blues

As the concluding class of my Master of Science in Library and Information Science, I have to complete an internship. I want to tell a bit of the story of setting up this internship, and the hardship it has caused. But first, I want to talk about the blog.

Adding an internship to a full-time job makes it very hard to find time to blog. I am doing the best I can just to keep up my three posts a week on Comparative Geeks. I want to write some fiction, and I keep finding excuses, and the internship is really the biggest one yet. And all of this exists as a priority before writing on this blog. I have a lot of posts I want to post here, thoughts and ideas. My experiment I left hanging, though I think I am going to wait a month this time, unlike the week I waited last time. So expect more to come there.

And I’ve turned to re-blogging to create content here. Except, I don’t think anyone is actually reading them, and I’m not seeing clicks through to Comparative Geeks, either. So is re-blogging serving a purpose? Creating content for the sole purpose of there being content here?

So I plan on blogging when I have something to say here, when I have the time, and desire. I have been wanting to write about my challenges with my internship, so let’s do that! Read more of this post

The Sunday Re-Blog – The Hero’s Progress

So last week, I did a re-blog of a list I had written, but I used the PressThis share feature, and that really does not give you much to work with as far as a post. It’s basically a one-liner link. I think you should check it out, it’s a good list of epic scifi and fantasy series.

This week, I will try to use this again, only this time by adding this text, and we’ll see how that works.

As explanation, this post was called The Hero’s Progress, and it was a theory based on plots and how we overuse some. Also check out the one I link to early on, my wife’s post about the recent controversies about the Damsel in Distress trope.
