Guidelines

Another week, another feeling that I can’t get some fiction together and up on the blog. I may have bitten off more than I could chew! I had hoped I was building up to this, but maybe I wasn’t ready, maybe I need to reorganize and prioritize differently. Probably.

We posted on Comparative Geeks as well that we’re going to try to post a little less there – I’m hoping I can translate that into some more fiction blogging here, and keep up my weekly submissions over on Sourcerer as well. That’s a lot of writing still, and I don’t think cutting one post over on Comparative Geeks will hurt – instead, I hope it will help.

As to the meme, I always felt like the whole “more like guidelines” thing should be one… when I started looking it up a while back, I found it WAS a “standard” meme, and this is the standard picture for it. So there you go!

Meme Monday 7 – the Post is a Lie

The Post is a Lie

At some point when doing Features, you have to figure out when you just need to call it. I didn’t plan far enough in advance to do a writing post today, and so, I don’t want to force it. Sure, I could probably write something real fast, but I was working on my post for Comparative Geeks for today, and I’m setting up a series on Sourcerer (going to be comics next!) which will be a couple of posts, and more from there.

Maybe Monday is a bad time for me to be doing an extra post. Maybe it’ll be easier when I’m not working Saturdays for six-days a week. Maybe it’ll never be easy and I just need to keep at it. Maybe I should have had a backlog of posts before I started into this plan. I don’t know.

But for now, I hope you enjoy the meme!

The Science Fiction Film Trifecta

Noah PosterI have been putting thought into doing more in terms of Science Fiction lately. More than anything, I’ve been thinking about doing more with my idea of Science Fiction Today. The idea being, take today’s problems, consider them in a Science Fiction setting, and consider whether we can be working on a solution to a problem in that way. I explained it all in more detail on Comparative Geeks.

This whole line of thought is where I started blogging from. My initial question on my Tumblr was, what would it be like for our presidential candidates (and other politicians) to present their beliefs in a Science Fictional sort of way – to say what they think the future would really look like if we followed their beliefs and plans into the future. I was contemplating writing it myself, but everything I thought of seemed like a Dystopia…

So this brings me around to the title. And some of my thinking is, maybe Science Fiction is doing alright on its own. Maybe it doesn’t need me championing the way it considers and explains the world. Maybe the big ideas I think are important are being shared with the public on a broader scale. My thoughts for this are based on three movies this year, each very different from each other, and all from big-name directors presenting big ideas. Standing at a Crossroads

Here at DBCII, I have been working my way towards doing more fiction writing – like I’ve discussed in posts like this last Six Word Saturday. Doing more than just blogging; the blogging served a purpose of getting me writing again and frequently, made writing part of my daily routine. But the blogging is both an outlet and a means to an end – but it is not the goal itself.

Meanwhile, on Comparative Geeks I have been considering one of our ongoing features, Science Fiction Today. As I discussed in posts like my year-and-a-half recap, I have been giving this feature or category a lot of thought. I have a ton of ideas of topics to cover, and thoughts on how to approach them or at least get started. And the question is, do I just work this into the flow on Comparative Geeks? A Year and a Half of Comparative Geeks! (The Sunday Re-Blog)

This last week was the 18-month mark for Comparative Geeks! I did some more reflecting on some of the new top posts – as well as some of the posts that could use some more love. It was interesting to look at both segments!

I like enjoying these small milestones, to remember how much we have accomplished in this time! 475 posts, and consistently posting 6 posts a week, has been a lot of work, and very rewarding. Thank you to all of you, our readers and commenters and followers and friends.

Last year at the six-month mark, I did a post highlighting our top posts and topics thus far. Many of those posts are still top posts, because they keep getting search engine hits. However, we have a few new contenders top posts that I would like to highlight – beyond the Illuminati post I referenced the other day.
