Whoops.

I forgot about Flash Fiction Friday yesterday. Just completely. My wife talked a bit about what we were up to yesterday, so that’s some of it. And I guess, some of it too is changing Features, you suddenly have something new to remember! Be ye warned.

I always wanted to use the line above for a Meme, and just never had inspiration. It seems like the sort for a two-part sort of thing: the first one, something. There’s the part I didn’t know. But part two is Doctor Moon, from the Doctor Who classics Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead, saying “and then, you forgot.” If you have any ideas for making the Meme, let me know and I will see what I can do!

Anyway, Flash Fiction Friday is not dead, it will return – I had even tweeted a story. I’ll just be saving that…

And reminder: Doctor Who series 8 starts tonight!

The Science Fiction Film Trifecta

Noah PosterI have been putting thought into doing more in terms of Science Fiction lately. More than anything, I’ve been thinking about doing more with my idea of Science Fiction Today. The idea being, take today’s problems, consider them in a Science Fiction setting, and consider whether we can be working on a solution to a problem in that way. I explained it all in more detail on Comparative Geeks.

This whole line of thought is where I started blogging from. My initial question on my Tumblr was, what would it be like for our presidential candidates (and other politicians) to present their beliefs in a Science Fictional sort of way – to say what they think the future would really look like if we followed their beliefs and plans into the future. I was contemplating writing it myself, but everything I thought of seemed like a Dystopia…

So this brings me around to the title. And some of my thinking is, maybe Science Fiction is doing alright on its own. Maybe it doesn’t need me championing the way it considers and explains the world. Maybe the big ideas I think are important are being shared with the public on a broader scale. My thoughts for this are based on three movies this year, each very different from each other, and all from big-name directors presenting big ideas. So read on for some of my thoughts on Noah, Lucy, and Interstellar!

I realized I shared the Writing Process Blog Tour from the folks I nominated, but failed to promote my nominator! Gene’O, from the blog formerly known as The Writing Catalog, led me in my thinking on how to approach this: lots of different types of writing projects to think about! Introducing Flash Fiction Friday!

I mentioned on Monday that I had been thinking about rearranging some of my Features here on DBCII. One that I have been working on is Six Word Story Saturday, which, while fun, is not the easiest thing to write. And, given I wasn’t getting a lot of interaction on these, I feel no problem with shifting that project to a slightly different one: Flash Fiction Friday.

Because blogging Features need alliteration.

So this is this week’s little story. I am, for now, going to keep doing the stories on Twitter, as an interesting forced limit to them. However, working within 140 characters is still a lot more than six words, so it’s some room to breathe. And, as I discussed last week, trying to create any sort of genre story in six words is very difficult – but I think that with 140 characters, there’s a shot!

So it’s a big improvement over a story like this:
