If you get a chance to see a writer at work and talking about their craft… I highly recommend it. I got to watch graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi at work at the recent Alaska Library Association conference, and it was just amazing. And so I wrote one of my longest ever posts…

Last week I wrote quite a rant about comics, and about how I don’t find them to be a bad thing. I tried to also stress the point that this hasn’t made me blind to the state of the world, doesn’t make me a child. Well, somewhere in the process of writing the rant, I got it all pretty much out of my system.

Which was a good thing, because the next day, I had the opportunity to see graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi presenting on “Making Comics and Graphic Novels.” And I pretty much came at this with my mind clear, which led to five and a half pages of notes (taken on my iPhone no less). It’s my birthday week, which had me thinking back to the post I wrote last year on my birthday. One of my more personal posts, and I really enjoyed it. Maybe you will too.

Today is my birthday, so I figure that means I get to write about what I want. Holly pointed out that I basically already do that, so maybe that doesn’t mean much.

Or else, to write just a completely geeking-out post about one of my favorite things. A lot of these ideas went through my head. This last week was the 18-month mark for Comparative Geeks! I did some more reflecting on some of the new top posts – as well as some of the posts that could use some more love. It was interesting to look at both segments!

Last year at the six-month mark, I did a post highlighting our top posts and topics thus far. Many of those posts are still top posts, because they keep getting search engine hits. The Sunday Re-Blog – Shameless Self-Promotion: I was asked to write a Game of Thrones Recap

Today I wanted to join in celebrating with a blogging friend! Patrick Sponaugle over at “I Can’t Possibly be Wrong All The Time” – a blog largely devoted to Game of Thrones thoughts – got asked to write a season 4 review for Film School Rejects! Sounds like he even got paid for the experience! Definitely worth following his link to the post he wrote!

I’ve had this blog for a just under a year, and most of it has been Game of Thrones-related. Not episode recaps or reviews, mostly opinions, or musings, or justifying some the characters’ bad decisions. I guess.

Writing about the show is enjoyable, and helps pass the time in-between seasons. (Only 9 more months until Season 5!) And the television show provides tons of things to write and opine about.

To my joy (and thanks to great support from some of my favorite podcasts who were very generous towards me) my blog received attention during Season Four, and I was asked by the publisher over at the Film School Rejects site if I’d be willing to write a recap for the most recent season for them.

Well, yes! I would indeed be willing. And so I did.
