IST 511 – Day 2

Sometimes it’s all about how you present something. That is what today was about – between looking at the complexities of searching, copyright law, and the presentation from a couple of librarian/information architects from Razorfish. (Neat website by the way!)
- For instance, what is or what is not copyright or fair use is all in how the item is used! I still have not figured out how to put a copyright notice on my blog here, but apparently that is no longer necessary. Still makes you feel better, you know?
- Search queries are all about putting things in the way that will find the best results! Yay controlled vocabulary! (Which is going to be very hard for me, I’m so verbose… oh, the other kind of controlled vocabulary: subject headings.)
- Razorfish talked to us about a corporate location where library and information science can really be beneficial: User Experience (UX). Yet, to connect to the technical and artistic people in the organization, the librarians had to learn how to put their skills into new language.
I also found out about the Libraries and Librarians Guild in World of Warcraft. I may need to join in with that… But I would need a good library-inspired name. Hmmm…
