My Writing Process (Alex Hurst)

When I tagged Alex Hurst for the Writing Process Blog Tour, I had failed to notice she had already answered it! Here are her answers and nominations for this – good stuff! Enjoy!

The Sunday Re-Blog – Shameless Self-Promotion: I was asked to write a Game of Thrones Recap

Today I wanted to join in celebrating with a blogging friend! Patrick Sponaugle over at “I Can’t Possibly be Wrong All The Time” – a blog largely devoted to Game of Thrones thoughts – got asked to write a season 4 review for Film School Rejects! Sounds like he even got paid for the experience! Definitely worth following his link to the post he wrote!

I’ve had this blog for a just under a year, and most of it has been Game of Thrones-related. Not episode recaps or reviews, mostly opinions, or musings, or justifying some the characters’ bad decisions. I guess.

Writing about the show is enjoyable, and helps pass the time in-between seasons. (Only 9 more months until Season 5!) And the television show provides tons of things to write and opine about.

To my joy (and thanks to great support from some of my favorite podcasts who were very generous towards me) my blog received attention during Season Four, and I was asked by the publisher over at the Film School Rejects site if I’d be willing to write a recap for the most recent season for them.

Well, yes! I would indeed be willing. And so I did.

5 Geeky Bands

I took a week off on Sourcerer for Music posts last week – it was a holiday week! – but here’s a post that I wrote on Comparative Geeks that fits right in. It’s an example of how I was trying to work music posts in over there, and how they didn’t really quite fit. Good list though, I stand by it.

We did a lot of yard work this evening, and while picking music to play on my iPhone as we worked, I was thinking about geeky bands. Side note, the iPhone playing music like a speaker is one of my favorite things.

I tried to think of a list that did not include bands that are just built on and in geek culture, so this rules out bands like The Black Mages (who are amazing). I also didn’t want to include bands that are just beloved by geek culture, like Daft Punk, the stars of Tron: Legacy.

So, here are five geeky bands. For some of these decisions, the music videos help. Enjoy!

I thought long and hard ’bout what I should say… When I was through it just came out this way! – The Black Keys

The latest in my music series, Listening to Music Without Understanding It! In this post, I showcase The Black Keys, one of my favorites. It also sparked quite a bit of discussion and music recommendations, so check that out if you are so inclined!

Hello and welcome again for another post in my Listening to Music Without Understanding It series. It’s time for another in-depth look at some music, and this week, it’s The Black Keys.

I was hoping to write something up with them earlier on, in advance of their new album coming out. Then their new album came out a week earlier than I was expecting, and there went that plan! With it out, I wanted to give it some time, check it out, and then report my thoughts. I think we’ve made it to that point!

I also just read the interview of Jack White in Rolling Stone the other day. In it, he kind of called out The Black Keysfor riding in on his coat-tails – a fellow two-person rock and blues combo band, coming to popularity after The White Stripes. And I have to admit, I started listening…

Great post, and though I tend to save re-blogs for Sundays, I think this one needs consideration.
