If you get a chance to see a writer at work and talking about their craft… I highly recommend it. I got to watch graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi at work at the recent Alaska Library Association conference, and it was just amazing. And so I wrote one of my longest ever posts…

Last week I wrote quite a rant about comics, and about how I don’t find them to be a bad thing. I tried to also stress the point that this hasn’t made me blind to the state of the world, doesn’t make me a child. Well, somewhere in the process of writing the rant, I got it all pretty much out of my system.

Which was a good thing, because the next day, I had the opportunity to see graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi presenting on “Making Comics and Graphic Novels.” And I pretty much came at this with my mind clear, which led to five and a half pages of notes (taken on my iPhone no less). It’s my birthday week, which had me thinking back to the post I wrote last year on my birthday. One of my more personal posts, and I really enjoyed it. Maybe you will too.

Today is my birthday, so I figure that means I get to write about what I want. Holly pointed out that I basically already do that, so maybe that doesn’t mean much.

Or else, to write just a completely geeking-out post about one of my favorite things. A lot of these ideas went through my head. Broken Bells – After the Disco Concert Review

My Favorite Band – The Broken Bells

I’ve been holding off on writing much about my favorite band. I had a reason. I was seeing them in concert. I figured this would give me some insight, something new and interesting and different to talk about. And I wasn’t wrong.

If you were to ask me who my favorite band is, I might have to think a bit. There are bands I’ve loved for a long time. Bands that have a large amount of good content, that keep being good. But really, if I were  forced to answer, I would have to go with the Broken Bells. And maybe, just maybe, some of the hesitation also has to do with the fact that, when I name them, people tend not to know who the heck I’m talking about.
