If we were having coffee… back to work edition

Librarian MugIf we were having coffee, I’d probably talk about being back at work this week. And how it was weird. For periods, I could get caught up in work and forgot everything else. At other times, I was so overcome by exhaustion it was impossible not to remember why…

It was hard being away. I think that’s probably something parents everywhere can sympathize with. So maybe over coffee you’d be offering that sympathy, that empathy, with me. And then we’d probably wonder what we were doing sitting around drinking coffee when there are kids to be with…

But the coffee’s not finished, so we keep drinking.

I’d probably talk about blogging some. About how great the guest posts have been on Comparative Geeks, and how they’ll keep running for weeks yet. About how we haven’t figured out working blogging back into our lives yet, and the guest posts are so great to help us with that. Though I would mention I pulled off a post on Sourcerer this week…

I’d talk about this blog, as well. About how I’m coming up on a year’s worth of Wordless Wednesdays, and how it’s time to think about doing something different with it. Maybe sharing some sketches. Which means I need to get sketching.

I’m thinking that a graphic novel or webcomic is in my near future. And that, having not found an artist, I may be needing to do that… So I need practice. And this seems like the place to showcase some of that. Well… here or Tumblr. Actually, Tumblr seems like the right place. I’d ask what you think – here or Tumblr?

    I don’t have much experience with Tumblr, but it would be great to see the sketches on here, and a webcomic/graphic novel would be AWESOME! And as I’m empathising over coffee, I’d tell you that for the first two or three months I was little more than the walking dead at work! My colleagues used to imitate me – you know, because colleagues are sooo sympathetic! Thanks for coffee 😀

    My baby girl will be 20 in July, but I still remember when we brought her home. We were both zombies for the first couple of months. It gets better and then suddenly they are teenagers. My advice to focus on remembering the moments when they are cute and loveable. That way you are less likely to strangle them when they are teenagers. 🙂 Thanks for the coffee!

      Thanks for the advice! 20 means that you successfully did not strangle any teenagers 🙂

      I’m trying to set myself up with good habits for creating things now, before the 13 years of warp speed happen! Then maybe I’ll get something written in that time…

        One thing that my dad told me is that all kids are different. I really did not understand why he told me that until my son was almost 3 and my daughter was around 10 months and still not walking. The boy walked for a couple of days around 9 months and then started running and hasn’t really stopped. My daughter on the other hand, waited until she was 13 months to walk 🙂 Drove my ex-wife crazy because she thought something was wrong with her. Dad said, she’ll walk when she’s ready. and she did 🙂

        Enjoy your journey. Try hard to make it fun for both you and the kids, but remember, you’re their parent first. You can be a friend too, but the parent thing must come first.

    Once upon a time, I had a newborn and was so exhausted that I went to work with my shirt on inside out and backward. lol

      Was good to have a new post go out! I have Friday posts on Comparative Geeks going up that I wrote months ago… Just not the same!

        haha…I was about halfway through my workday when someone finally asked me what was up with my shirt and I noticed it.

        And I know what you mean—writing ahead is nice in that there’s something to publish, but it’s just not the same as writing something and publishing it right after it’s written.

    It does get easier, I remember being totally exhausted when my kids were born but then you blink and suddenly they’re talking, walking and have turned into fully functioning people. Very freaky.
